The new osg choir

Since the earliest days of OSG 15 years ago, its Artistic Director and Conductor Yves Léveillé has dreamed of creating a mixed choir just for the orchestra, and having the choir join our musicians when the programs called for their presence. The celebration of our 15th anniversary turns out to be the perfect opportunity for the creation of such an ensemble: the OSG Choir.

Maestro Léveillé chose a suitably outstanding Choir Director in the person of Antonio Llaca. Over the years, Mr. Llaca has directed a number of choirs that have accompanied the OSG in works such as Mozart’s Requiem (2014), Carmina Burana (2017) and Handel’s Messiah (2017), to name just a few examples.

Cuban-born Antonio Llaca is a dynamic choir director, teacher and clinician, who has studied with internationally renowned masters. Not only is he the Director of Choral Activities at Carleton University, but he is also a professor at the Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau, where he conducts the choirs and the orchestra. Since 2009, he has also conducted Coro Vivo Ottawa. His choral ensembles have won international awards and performed in Canada, the United States and Asia.

For the 15th season’s closing concert, which will be presented in salle Odyssée on April 2, 2022, audiences will get to finally discover the all-new OSG Choir, as it joins our musicians for Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
